With 40,632 farms in 2005 – fewer than in 2000 (-21%) but larger in size – agriculture remains vitally important in Bretagne. It is mainly oriented towards breeding (beef, pork, Poultry) and mixed farming (cereals and vegetables).

Two thirds of cereal farming centres on feed for stockbreeding (corn, wheat, barley) and vegetable production (green beans, artichokes, shallots, potatoes, tomatoes) and is ranked number one in France.
