A sector which has been part of Brittany’s identity

A few key dates:
- 1959 : Creation of CNET – National Telecommunications Studies Centre in Lannion (which became France Telecom R&D in 2000); Alcatel & Thomson, Matra and Sagem sites
- 1962: First worldwide satellite broadcast in Côtes d’Armor, in Pleumeur Bodou, Côtes d’Armor
- 1970: First public telephone units using electronic time switching devices and digital PBX installed
- 1977: Creation of Télécom Bretagne, the first school for telecommunications engineers
- 1986: First ATM demonstration, network protocol for data transmission
- 1991: Canon, Wandel & Goltermann research centre in Rennes
- 1994-1995: Lucent Technologies Bell Labs Innovations, Mitsubishi
- 1999 - 2004: Siemens, Silicon Laboratories, Texas Instruments, Leadtek
- 2005: Certification of world class Images and networks centre; Renesas - Rennes
- 2007: Development of plugtests (fibre optics) in Lannion in collaboration with international companies; Huawei sites in Lannion
- 2008: European Nem Summit in Saint Malo (Networked Electronic Media); Indian investment: Wipro Technologies; West Web Valley is launched.
- 2009 : The main public and private players of Brittany’s digital sector announce new ambitions for international development – excellence of the sector on the future internet and its many perspectives: social networks, LTE, M2M, Mobile TV, Web semantics, virtual reality, the 2nd Nem Summit will take place in Saint Malo at the end of September.
