- Controlled atmosphere furnace for glass with high mechanical properties A process for the production of high purity glasses has been developed by a research unit at the University of Rennes 1 specialized in brittle materials. The invention relates to a frame consisting of a melting furnace, an annealing furnace and a communication enclosure between these two elements. The assembly is maintained under a controlled atmosphere. Thus, the gas melting, quenching and annealing stages like the product displacements in the frame take place without contact with the open air… To read more… (in french)

- Paminsa: highly accurate displacement of heavy loads by way of a parallel manipulator A research team at INSA-Rennes has developed a new parallel manipulator which is particularly efficient for the smooth and highly accurate positioning of heavy loads. The principle of this parallel manipulator is based on decoupling the control power allowing to lift a substantial load at a given altitude using a powerful actuator and then displace it horizontally using three actuators. This innovative solution turns handling heavy parts into a more efficient and less expensive operation and allows better control of the vertical displacement of the load and of its horizontal positioning.
