Afu (Saint Malo) has invested €800k in a metal 3D printer to be able to produce metal objects especially aeronautical, aerospace, military, medical and other applications. The only machining specialist to offer metal additive (3D) manufacturing in Bretagne, a growth market as yet relatively unknown, the company prides itself on having attracted customers like Airbus, for whom Afu produces prototypes and small production runs. Afu hopes that the metal 3D printing will make it “the leading Bretagne business accredited for the aeronautical industry” thanks to the EN 9100 aeronautical and space certification. Afu plans to acquire a second printer in 2016 to work with titanium and to hire a development engineer.
