Canon Bretagne creates a start-up accelerator

The only production unit of the Japanese group Canon in Europe, Canon Bretagne (Liffré) is known for its electronic boards and its plastic injection and assembly activities. The site is now opening to start-ups!

The manufacturing sub-contractor has created a start-up accelerator called Pôle Startups by Canon Bretagne. The manufacturer laid out a 400 m2 space 1 km from its factory and is investing €400k over three years to make its technicians and engineers and available to them. The premises will be able to house up to five start-ups at the same time for a fixed period. Each start-up undertakes to pay a flat rate of €500 excl. VAT a month to benefit from a centre manager, a network of partners in the legal, financial, marketing and distribution fields as well as free access to 3D tools and printers, a prototyping workshop, showroom, etc.

The Chairman of Canon Bretagne, Shunji Nakamura, is looking to generate new business and increase the factory’s workload through a partnership strategy in the medium term and joint development and design services. The selected projects will involve highly electronic and/or mechanical products, excluding military applications, and which do not compete with the Canon products. The support will not be limited to the hosted start-ups. Canon is supported in this initiative by the French Tech Rennes Saint-Malo and by the Region through a seed grant of €35k.
