Cooperl Arc Atlantique is joining forces with New Hope Liuhe to build a new cooked meat factory in China

In a context where China is viewed as the new El Dorado for the pork sector, Cooperl Arc Atlantique (Lamballe, 5,000 employees, €2Bd turnover 2016) is joining forces with the Chinese group New Hope Liuhe (60,000 employees, €8.4MM turnover 2016), a specialist in animal nutrition, livestock rearing and pork processing, to create a JV and build a processing factory for pork products: salt meat and other cooked, uncooked or smoked products using a low-temperature occidental cooking method. The social capital has €20M own equity in equal shares. Work should commence in 2018.

The leading French pig slaughterhouse indicates that this is a first step in creating a full pork production sector in China, where Cooperl Arc Atlantique is already exporting live pigs for genetics in China and is already working with the Chinese company Xinda in a breeding JV. Cooperl processes 5.7 million pigs a year and despite the new outlet in Asia, the majority of its business takes place in France. In addition, Cooperl Arc Atlantique is investing €40M in a new site at Plestan, near its Lamballe headquarters, where one part will be set aside for processing meat from pigs and another for logistics.
