The canning plant La Belle Iloise (Quiberon, 350 to 600 employees (seasonal), €47M turnover 2016) is investing €4M in its two sites at Quiberon and Saint-Avé, to modernise and automate its sardine, tuna and soup packaging processes, in batches or boxes, and increase its production capacities. It is also going to transfer its packaging centre to the Saint-Avé site, which is currently employed solely in storing and preparing orders.
The canning plant’s products are not found in major retail outlets as it distributes them directly via mail order (25% of turnover) and a network of 73 own-stores. La Belle Iloise proposes two to five new products a year and themed boxes. It is relying on its reputation for further growth in 2017 and intends to hire 6 or 7 permanent staff in 2018.
