Augmented reality is everywhere: cars, media, telecoms, healthcare, trade, etc. And many start-ups are emerging around this technology in Bretagne just like Gimbal Cube (Lannion) or e-mage in 3D (Camaret sur Mer). Whilst collaboration between businesses and suppliers of technologies is multiplying, the B-com Technological Research Institute is involved, at world level, in structuring new industrial ecosystems in the digital sectors, by integrating the ETSI industrial specifications group around augmented reality technologies.
This group was created last December and its members include Fraunhofer HHI, CEA, Institut Mines Telecom and B-com, among others. Siemens, Bosch, Technicolor and Orange also attended the group’s first meeting. This is the fourth standardisation group chaired by B-com. This cooperation with reference European players competes directly or indirectly with the very largest players and is thus developing a European economy. The goal of this initiative is to define a technological framework specific to industrial uses of augmented reality, based on existing standards and focusing on the interoperability needs of manufacturers. This framework will therefore benefit both suppliers of technology and end users.
