The Harris Briochin company (Saint Malo, 45 employees) is the French leader in firelighters under the brand name Harris and old-fashioned maintenance products created using traditional French expertise, with Briochin, whose flagship product remains black soap.

Briochin products are sold in ten countries, including South Korea, Japan, Vietnam, China, Canada, the United Kingdom and Serbia. Currently, export accounts for less than 10% of sales but is expected to reach 30% within 5 years.

For two years, the SME has diversified into cosmetics with a “Fleur de savon” body care range: shower gel, milk, balm, extra soft loafers and exfoliating loafers, based on natural plant oils and available in several fragrances. This range has recently obtained Cosmos Organic certification. The label requires 95% of ingredients to be of natural origin and Fleur de Savon products contain 98%. Their credentials now include soap made from organic ingredients and natural fragrances.

Briochin’s transition from natural to organic certified is expected to help boost organic hygiene and beauty sales in supermarkets, a segment that has been enjoying double-digit growth for several years now. To support its growth, the group is building a new production site in Quintin.
