The Bretagne LGV (high-speed line) was opened on 2 July 2017. It connects Rennes to Paris-Montparnasse in 1 hour 25 minutes, 45 minutes less than previously, and Brest and Quimper in 3.1/2 hours. In anticipation of a 20% rise in passenger numbers on the TER (regional railways) (ten million journeys/year), the Region plans to increase its intra-regional rail travel by 30% with 21 additional TER lines built by Bombardier by 2019. The Regional Council is providing €230M financing and the order involves miscellaneous work on the tracks between Rennes and Brest in the north and Rennes and Quimper in the south to compete better with inter-city road traffic. 116 railway stations and halts have also been fully renovated.
