Technature innovates and exports its expertise

Technature (Dirinon and Le Relecq-Kerhuon, near Brest, 150 employees) is the world leader in the cosmetic mask market. With the acquisition of Laboratoires Science et Mer in 2016, the SME is also a leader in the manufacture of cosmetic products for thalassotherapy.

A low-key success, since the company only works as a white label: it develops formulations, is responsible for the manufacture and even packaging of cosmetic products, for its big brand clients or for private labels. It supplies its masks, creams, serums, gels, scrubs… to 1,500 brands (500 customers) in more than 50 countries around the world.

To satisfy them, the company relies on innovation, particularly through its research on alginate, a natural component obtained from brown algae. The pace is sustained as Technature offers its customers two to three innovations a year, while developing four new formulas a week.

One of the reasons that earned the SME to receive the growth award of the Public Investment Bank in 2017, as it was going through a period of crisis: a fire ravaged its Relecq-Kerhuon site in early 2017, which forced it to move to its other site. However, Technature held up well, with the support of the Bretagne Region and Brest Métropole, and returned to its premises in June. The new site is not yet fully operational, but despite everything, within one year Technature has doubled its production capacity, and hopes to increase its turnover by 25% in 2019 and recruit a dozen additional people.
