Two labs merge to create a super naval research lab in Bretagne

IRDL research in maritime engineering

The Laboratoire d’ingénierie des matériaux de Bretagne (LIMATB, Lorient) and the Laboratoire brestois de mécanique et des systèmes (LBMS, Brest) have merged. The result is the Institut de Recherche Dupuy-de-Lôme (IRDL, 280 employees), which aims to develop innovative research in maritime engineering (design of less polluting composite materials, component strength tests, creation of models, etc.). This is the first laboratory in the world to specialise exclusively in this field. CNRS is already an IRDL partner, which should give it more international visibility. | |
