North Sails, US 3DI sail designer for major boating races has based its global R&D centre in its French headquarters, North Sails France, in Vannes (30 employees). It will be headed up by G. Sergent, former 3D site manager at Minden in the USA and Sri Lanka.

Recently, the group’s sails beat the Idec world record, Thomas Covilles’s cross-Atlantic record, the 7 first positions in the Vendée Globe, etc. The R&D centre will innovate on sails while also focusing on other sectors such as aviation or product recycling and sustainable development. The company has adapted its 3Di sails to yachts, with over 1,000 sails sold in 3 months.

As part of its growth strategy, North Sails France is banking on a simulation tool set up 5 years ago.
