Whaou! pancakes have the wind in their sails

The manufacturer of Whaou! pancakes (€42M annual turnover) is investing in a 2,000 m2 extension to its site at Plouédern. This should be in operation at the end of June 2017. A response to its increasing growth of 5 to 10% a year. With twenty different flavours, the Whaou! filled pancake now leads this market. Every day, 1.5 million pancakes are made by the 155 permanent employees supplemented by temporary staff when needed. Whaou! pancakes have created 55 jobs in five years. A further fifty or so posts will be filled after the expansion. The market is nowadays mainly national; 15% of the production is exported to different countries: United States, England, Australia, Spain, etc. Large and medium retailers account for 95% and 5% are used in outside catering (schools and hospitals). Whaou! is part of the Goûters magiques Group (Locminé, 500 employees, €140M turnover), now fully controlled by Norac (Rennes, 3,300 employees, €500M turnover, La Boulangère and Daunat brands), which thus is becoming more significant in the pastry sector.
